Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Use Save Scumming To Protect Romantic Partners

In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are many party members for players to meet and interact with, and romance can even spark between them. Naturally, players will have their favorites among characters and will persevere in pursuing romantic interests that suit their preferences. For some, adopting controversial tactics in this pursuit is often part of gameplay strategy.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players have been discussing their approach to romancing with their fellow players on Reddit, specifically regarding using the save scum method to get the best results.

Players Are Determined Not to Upset Their Romantic Interest, by Any Means Necessary

A Reddit user named u/Admiral_Evil inspired a lively conversation about love in Baldur’s Gate 3 by sharing a meme that perfectly sums up what many players feel in love with their favorite NPC. In this case, it often involves the process of using the controversial practice of save scumming.

For those unaware of save scumming, when at some point you save your game and reload that save if something happens or you are not satisfied with the situation. This can happen before interacting with important NPCs or if a combat encounter goes particularly badly for you. In this case, there are some challenges that can make your conversion to attraction unsatisfying.

As you can imagine, players take a keen interest in romance options, especially getting them right, so there are tons of comments from players discussing moments of their romance, or sometime- They are trying to save themselves on time. One user reported that his brother completely restarted his game after accidentally romancing Karlach so that he could do it correctly. Another person speaking about their difficulties in gaining their party’s approval, told them about Laezel’s struggles in gaining their party’s approval, and others joined in the discussion to highlight how far some players go with their party. Or in some cases, they actively try not to gain the approval of.

Whether you agree with save scumming or not, this is a choice the players can make on their own and it doesn’t affect other players, so the people who chose it have more power. Also, when it comes to the romance options, sometimes it can be difficult to save a few reloads for a particular favorite and you’ll probably end up doing a bit of simping and maybe reloading a couple of saves. I did the same thing with Persona 5’s Makoto, and I’m not ashamed to say it.
